Marko Perković Thompson has today released his eighth studio album, entitled Hodočasnik, confirming his return to the music scene after a twelve-year studio hiatus.
The album has generated intense interest from the audience and the media since its announcement. It has already established itself as one of the most significant music releases of the year.
The album brings a recognizable Thompson signature – a combination of intense emotion, spirituality, patriotism, and personal reflection. It is musically diverse, with elements of rock, ballad, and traditional influences, while textually it carries layers of faith, identity, and historical awareness. The release is now available on CD and streaming platforms, and a vinyl release is also expected before the big concert at the Hippodrome.
The idea was big, the road was long, and we finally got what we wanted. I can’t say that I did it for twelve years, but somehow it worked out that way. The original concept for Hodočasnik was a double album of 24 songs; however, due to the numerous events and my limited time, we ultimately decided on a single release. I’m glad that it was finally published and that I will make some people happy, especially my son Anto, who really wanted this album and pushed me and gave me strength, but not only him, but my whole family – said Thompson
Ahead of the album’s release, Thompson released a series of singles that heralded the atmosphere and message of Pilgrim. The first single, If You Don’t Know What It Was, was created in collaboration with Croatian Records. Nepročitano pismo, Devedeset neke, and Oluja followed this. Slike Bleiburga emphasized deep-rooted historical and emotional themes, while the last released single, The Skipped Line, was presented at the beginning of June.
It is worth noting that all the singles released from the album were at the top of YouTube’s trending charts, further confirming the strong connection between the artist and the audience, as well as the relevance of his messages.
The album, produced by Marko Perković Thompson, was recorded in Split and completed at Branimir Mihaljević’s Karpo Media studio in Zagreb, where, in addition to production support, numerous musicians contributed to the arrangements.
A lot of people participated here, for whom I would need a long show to list. The album began to be recorded in Split. Still, for some reason, we were unable to finish it. Afterward, Branimir Mihaljević offered himself, whom I knew was very well-organized. With his involvement we got what we wanted – from the sound itself to the performance of the songs. I would also like to thank Anta Padovan, who has been with me from the beginning and has watched over every detail. I would also like to thank Nenad Ninčević, who “helped with the solutions of some texts and gave his great help. Somehow God’s providence was that on the last song we recorded, the whole band that will accompany me on the new tour joined: Ivan Ivanković, Branimir Jovanovac, Ante Jurinović, Mario Klarić, Ante Padovan, Branimir Mihaljević, Petar Buljan, and Palić Sisters – said Thompson
Thompson will premiere the songs from the Hodočasnik album on July 5, 2025, at the Zagreb Hippodrome. It is expected that this concert will be one of the most attended and significant musical events in history. As of today, a pre-save for the vinyl edition of the album, which will be available for sale on the day of the concert, is also available. Also, tonight at 7 p.m. on CMC television, the music video for the song Kralj Tomislav will be premiered.
Hodočasnik confirms that Thompson, even after a long absence from the studio, remains genuine to himself and his audience – intense, emotional, and authentic.
