Gabi Novak, one of the most essential and beloved Croatian singers, has passed away at the age of 90.

Born in Berlin in 1936, she rose to fame in the 1960s and 1970s with her refined blend of chanson, jazz, and pop. She was renowned for her exceptional interpretation and artistic standards, and her career spanned over six decades of the Croatian music scene. Gabi Novak collaborated with some of the most significant composers, recorded numerous albums, and received numerous awards, including several Porin awards – among them the Porin for Lifetime Achievement.

She was the life and artistic partner of Arsen Dedić, with whom she shared music, stages, and family. In recent months, the public followed her grief after the death of their son, pianist Matija Dedić, in June 2025.

Gabi Novak will be remembered as the “first lady of Croatian popular music”, whose emotional expression, artistic standard, and elegance have left a lasting mark on Croatia’s cultural heritage.
